The 2023 Dodge Charger Super Bee Wears Factory Drag Radials

Jun 03, 2023

The second of seven Last Call models, the Super Bee returns prepped for the strip.

Dodge has just unveiled the second Last Call special edition muscle car model by way of the new Charger Super Bee. Like the Dodge Challenger 1320 that originally debuted in 2019, this tweaked Charger promises to deliver enhanced drag racing capabilities thanks to a few key modifications.

Mopar fans will certainly recall the original Super Bee that launched back in 1968, before becoming a Charger trim for the 1971 model year. Like that classic muscle car, Dodge is trying to blend street and strip performance with this new package. The automaker plans to build just 500 of these Charger Super Bee models based on the Scat Pack, with an additional 500 units based on the Widebody variant of the same trim. That means under the hood you’ll find a 6.4-liter V-8 engine producing 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. Like every Charger model, an eight-speed automatic is the sole gearbox available. The narrow Super Bees will all be finished in the B5 Blue exterior hue, while every Widebody model will feature the iconic Plum Crazy paint.

A set of 20x9.5-inch knurled wheels with 275-section drag radials will adorn every Scat Pack model, while a wider set of 18x11-inch drag racing wheels wrapped in 315-section rubber come as standard for the Widebody. For running to the grocery store, these are very, very bad tires. For running down the quarter mile, they are very, very good.

In order to make the most of those sticky tires, Dodge has outfitted the Charger Super Bee with a set of adaptive dampers with a specific Drag Mode, a bit of tech borrowed from the Demon. The SRT Hood finished with Mopar hood pins features a functional scoop with dual heat extractors. Both models will feature four-piston Brembo brakes with red calipers, and a set of black exhaust tips for an added bit of style. Speaking of which, every Charger Super Bee will feature a unique exterior graphics package, as well as model-specific badging. The interior also gets a unique treatment, with Super Bee seatbacks and instrument panel graphics.

Dodge has yet to release any performance figures for this special edition model, but don’t expect it to rival the Challenger 1320 that CEO Tim Kuniskis likens this model to. That vehicle came equipped with the Demon’s trick trans brake setup, which allows for much more aggressive launches than the standard gearbox. Either way, a set of radials is sure to improve the 1/4 mile performance. Pricing and ordering information is not available at this time, though the automaker will unveil information for all of the Last Call models later this fall.
